About
Who writes this
Most oral care writing is either marketing or advocacy, and neither tells you who is responsible for it. Here is ours. Every article in the library is written by one person and reviewed by a dentist before it goes up.
Author
Conan Brkanac
BS Biophysics, University of Washington
Conan Brkanac writes the Athena Naturals library. He holds a BS in Biophysics from the University of Washington.
As a freshman he spent a year in an undergraduate lab working on biomimetic protein scaffolds for enamel remineralization, before moving on to other work. The subject stuck. Much of what this library covers, the way enamel loses and regains mineral and what actually shifts that balance, is the chemistry he first met there.
Every source in these articles is read and checked against the claim it is attached to, and every article is reviewed by a dentist before it is published.
Clinical review
Jade K. Kim, DDS
Dentist and founder · Doctor of Dental Surgery
Dr. Jade K. Kim is a dentist and the founder of Athena Naturals. She formulated Essential Mint after years of watching patients react to ingredients that were in their toothpaste for reasons that had nothing to do with their teeth.
She has practiced dentistry since 1997 and has owned Jade K Kim DDS PS since 2002, where she continues to practice.
She reviews every article in this library before it is published, and checks each one against current clinical evidence.

The obvious conflict
Athena Naturals sells a fluoride-free toothpaste, and the dentist who reviews these articles founded the company. That is a related-party review and you should read it as one.
What we do about it: every claim in the library is sourced to published literature and cited inline, so you can check the reasoning without taking our word for it. Where the evidence runs against our commercial interest, including on the effectiveness of fluoride, we say so plainly in the articles themselves.
